Rachel affiong umoh
Rachel Affiong Umoh fondly called LadyRay, is an inspiring individual who is making a positive impact on the lives of others. She is a Nigerian by descent but currently resides in the United Kingdom.
As a Rehabilitation Practitioner and Mental Health Advocate, Rachel is dedicated to providing support and coaching for individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges. Through writing of articles and poems, she combines her artistic talents with advocacy to raise awareness about mental health management, disability rights, and inclusion. Her foundation, Ray’s Haven for the Special Needs Children & Adults, reflects her incredible passion for improving the lives of those with special needs in Africa by providing support systems for their rehabilitation and psychological wellbeing.
Having worked in a special education needs school, LadyRay has gained valuable insights and hands-on experience supporting and counselling individuals with diverse needs, including learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral difficulties, and developmental disorders. This experience has honed her ability to effectively assess their psychological needs, develop appropriate intervention plans, and implement strategies that promote their mental well-being and overall development.
Her role as a special education counsellor has also allowed her to work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students. She collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized education plans, conducted group therapy sessions, and provided one-on-one counselling to address the unique challenges faced by students.
LadyRay’s experience in special education, her involvement as an assistant psychologist with a women’s rights NGO initiative, and having worked with women of diverse backgrounds, including survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other forms of abuse have deepened her understanding and skillsets with regards to the intersectionality of mental health and social issues and the importance of trauma-informed care and empowerment for marginalised populations.
Ladyray’s ultimate goal is to create a world where everyone feels included and no one is left behind.
